FILTER is a platform for international contemporary art. FILTER is not bound to one specific location, but is a flexible entity and able to navigate and move around within other locations and institutions. FILTER concentrates on an interdisciplinary work structure in collaboration with artists, cultural activists, curators and with other institutions, emphasis on contemporary art.
FILTER DETROIT has been founded end of 2009 in a single family home in Detroit. It is an innovative initiative which constitutes itself between the research of art, urban planning as well as social and educational projects of the immediate neighborhood. As a platform FILTER DETROIT would like to develop into:

FILTER in Detroit at Design 99
The hospitality of Design 99, an experimental project and retail space for art, design and architecture as well as the association for contemporary art Hamburg on behalf of the project "Wir sind woanders # 3" enables FILTER to travel to Detroit from 22nd of August till the 26th of August 2009.
In a series of visits to Detroit in 2009 and 2010 FILTER is working out a format together with Design 99 for the presentation of the Hamburg suitcase as well as a work of Hamburg artist Jörn Stahlschmidt together with a CD of his collaborative music project Dissamonix.
FILTER asked Design 99, who believe that contemporary architecture and design is not reserved for a select audience, to develop a design for the so-called „Hamburger Koffer“ (dt. Hamburg suitcase), a suitcase full of information about various independent art spaces and initiatives in Hamburg and the Dissamonix work.
Design 99, Detroit
The introduction of Jörn Stahlschmidt’s work to the city of Detroit as well as the collaborative work of Design 99 for the „Hamburg Koffer“ is the beginning of a pursuing investigation of FILTER DETROIT with artists, musicians, designers, architects, cultural activists and institutions in and with the city of Detroit.
